Bohning Golf Ferrules

Technical Advice

Ferrule Installation

The first step in the ferrule installation process is to match the club hosel outside diameter (OD) as closely as possible to the ferrule OD. Bohning golf ferrules, in metalwood or iron, are built to exacting tolerances, with multiple OD sizes to best fit your requirements.

Once you have selected the proper ferrule size, check the hosel depth to determine the exact location of the ferrule on the shaft. Mark that point on the shaft. Slide the ferrule up the shaft to that mark with a ferrule installation tool or a cut-off piece of shaft.

If you have difficulty pushing the ferrule up the shaft, try soaking the ferrule in hot water for a few minutes, or apply low heat using a heat gun. It should slide on easily.

Once the ferrule is in place and the club head is installed, final finishing of the ferrule can be completed with a cloth belt sander. A high-gloss finish on the ferrule can be achieved with a little acetone.

Ferrule Finishing

To restore the shine to a ferrule after you have finished it to fit the hosel, start with 4/0 steel wool. Firmly rub the ferrule with the steel wool to smooth the surface.

Next, with a complete 360° spinning motion of the ferrule, apply a soft cloth or paper towel soaked in acetone. Be sure to soak, not just dampen, the cloth or towel with acetone.

Hold the cloth or towel in one hand and spin the ferrule against the soaked portion. As soon as you finish the complete spin, pull the cloth or towel away from the ferrule. You may have to repeat this a few times to get a nice shine.

A finishing shine can be achieved by buffing the ferrule with Glanz Wax.
